The AARA participates in the SKYWARN program of the National Weather Service, serving as severe weather spotters. All members of the AARA are encouraged to take both basic and advanced skywarn training. Periodically, the AARA sponsors both skywarn classes in Alexander County which are open to local county agencies and the general public. Area skywarn communications are conducted on the 145.35 Mhz repeater.
